Overview
There are multiple international sporting events taking place every year, and business management plays an influential role in these events from a commercial, corporate, and retail perspective. The sports industry has become an economic pillar in our society and the role business management plays in every kind of sport has never been bigger, increasing demand for people with business and management skills in sports.
With modules meticulously developed by the triple-accredited University of Liverpool Management School, you will gain professional business knowledge and management skills, and an understanding of the policies and practices of different sports organisations. The course is suitable for those who are currently working in the sports sector and those looking to carve out a career in the sporting world, whether as an agent, an analyst, a marketing manager, or any other position.
Throughout the programme, you will learn from a wide variety of topics, including the global sports business environment, sports event management, leadership in sport, sports strategy, and more. You will improve your ability to critically analyse sports organisations’ policies and practices within the dynamic sports business environment, empowering you to make evidence-based decisions. You will also apply the learning from the programme to explore an issue within your own organisation or the sports business environment.
After completing the programme, you may pursue a career in sports or recreation management in both the public and private sectors, such as sports or recreation development, clubhouse operation and management, and sports association management. You will be able to progress your career in a range of disciplines, such as human resources management, marketing, strategic management, etc.

Learning and Assessments
Teaching methods
You will take part in an innovative online learning environment, which includes a range of interesting and thought-provoking exercises. Core information is developed by subject-leading experts in the field and closely aligned with both industry and academic best practice, underpinned by rigorous theoretical and practical topics, examples and cases. Throughout your study journey, you will learn through interactive individual activities, case studies, group tasks and discussion boards; these will be primarily asynchronous, but opportunities for synchronous interaction will be provided.
Assessment method
Assessment is by coursework only – no examinations required. Instead, a diverse range of assessments are used throughout the programme designed to mirror circumstances that students may experience within a professional context. This ensures you will be provided with a range of opportunities to show evidence of your learning.
Virtual learning environment (VLE)
The Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) is at the centre of your online study experience. It is the platform where you can find your study timetable, view interactive lecture casts, exchange knowledge with others in discussion forums, access resources and e-library, and submit your assignments. You can learn on demand, study at any time, on any device, from anywhere with an internet connection. There is a study skills hub to help you improve and maintain your academic skills, from planning your assignments, understanding academic integrity, and referencing, to using the online library and improving your time management.
Entry Requirement
Applicants should possess either:
- A minimum of a 2:1 class degree in an appropriate subject, equivalent to a UK bachelor’s degree, or
- Professional work experience in a related field and/or other prior qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
All applicants must have reached a minimum required standard of English language and are required to provide evidence of this.

£16,065*
This fee is fully inclusive of all costs, including all teaching materials, core textbooks, assessments and resits.
Full payment discount
If you choose to pay the full tuition fee upfront, you will receive an extra 5% discount.
You can also choose to pay with a simple monthly payment plan, spreading the cost over the duration of your study.
Regional Scholarship
A Regional Scholarship of 5% is available for students based in Hong Kong for the 2023/24 academic year.
